The Wizard, the Prince, and the Good Fairy

George Melies was a French magician, and one of the fathers of cinema. He invented special effects… in 1896! As part of a Sound Design project for SCAD, I dubbed sound effects over this 1900 silent film of his using Soundminer – a catalogue of everything from footsteps to music.

If you’re interested in film history, or just wonder how a multi-million-dollar industry started out, give the video a click. Don’t stop there, however, Melies shot over 500 short films in his life, his magnum opus being the 1903 film “A Trip to the Moon.”

This also marks the launch of the Punch Cartel Youtube Channel, which will soon feature the latest and greatest in entertainment and information.
